American rap artist and vocalist Lotus, AKA Aurovind Ahluwalia, had a passion for music at a young age. Born in Red Bank, New Jersey, and raised in Colts Neck, Lotus was introduced to the genre of hip-hop…….nah none of that. I don’t like that third-person text I know it would make me look more professional but it’s just me writing this, to be honest.
So what’s good? My name is Lotus, and I’m the best Indian rap artist (and producer) in the game.
I have catchy hooks, authentic lyrics, a funny personality, and I make my own beats for most of my songs. I have directed, edited, and recorded most of my videos and content. I’m a genuine person and it shows in my music. Everything I rap about is true to me, and I don’t rap fake “hard” just to follow a trend. I follow what’s true to me because I’m trying to perfect my craft.
Basically, my lyrics are relatable to anyone listening. I don’t cap in my raps, and I’m pretty broke, so don’t expect to hear me rapping about my luxury sports cars. I’ll talk about my leased 2019 Honda Civic though.
To show you the difference in my vocabulary, in a typical rap song you might hear, “Pop a perc and I blackout, F*** it, I’m blowing her back out” & I might say to that, “Pop a Nerd then I act out, F*** it, I might take a nap now.” If a rapper talks about his bust down 18K Rolex, I’ll talk about my Rakhi.
I rap about my frustration of being an unknown broke rap artist too. There’s real emotion behind my music that you might not hear from these chart-topping rappers, who mostly talk about parties and sex. Most rap songs today have no real meaning, but not mine.
I grew up in several different genres of music, and I experiment by taking some qualities from them for my songs. I’m able to make the best quality song because I’m a producer as well as a rap artist, so I have full control over the beat and the vocals. I can adjust the beat to compliment the vocals or adjust the vocals to compliment the beat. Some of the biggest rappers today have no idea how to do this, so they have paid producers who don’t have the same artistic vision in mind to be in charge of the post-production and mix of the song. When there is just one person (me) working on the beat, lyrics, vocals, and production, the song sounds more cohesive.
You’re probably asking yourself, who am I? Why did I even get into music and hip-hop at all?
Well, I was born in Red Bank, New Jersey, and grew up in Colts Neck. I was introduced to music at a young age when my brother gave me three CDs of varying genres of the biggest artists, which were Eminem, Linkin Park, and The Beatles. I would walk around the halls of my primary school with a retro Walkman and bulky headphones just to listen to these artists.
When I was 10 I was remixing the songs on my phone with a DJ app, and by the time I was about 13, I realized I liked listening to music so much I wanted to make more music just to listen to it. From there, I got into creating my own beats when my brother showed me my first digital audio workstation (DAW), known as Fruity Loops. From that point forward, I was hooked on the possibilities for making great music, and I still use Fruity Loops to make my beats to this day.
My biggest influences currently are Kanye West, Drake, J. Cole, Tyler, the Creator, Fetty Wap, X, Death Grips, Kendrick Lamar, NBA YoungBoy, Lil Wayne, T.I., Lil Uzi Vert, Gunna, Lil Baby, Lil Durk, Lil Tecca, Dababy, Cardi B, Young Thug, Nicki Minaj, Run the Jewels, Vince Staples, Pop Smoke, Bizzy Banks, Big Sean, Post Malone, Rick Ross, Rich the Kid, and Rae Sremmurd. I also know how to play the piano, drums, guitar, and clarinet.
Music is my life’s work and I’m grinding every single day to create my songs and videos, share my content, and grow an online presence. I know I’m going to succeed in becoming one of the biggest rap artists of all time because nothing will stop me until I achieve it. I sincerely hope you support me on my journey, I’ll support you too. #teamlotus
“I chose the rap name Lotus because, in Hindi, that’s what my name translates to. The Lotus is an ancient symbol in India representing prosperity, beauty, and most importantly, enlightenment. Right now the world feels so divided, but if my music could enlighten and unite people it would make me feel complete.”
